Footlocker Regional XC Championships

Several Watauga XC runners participated in the South Regional Footlocker race, held at the very fast McAlpine Park course in Charlotte over the holiday weekend.  Kathleen posted the 2nd fastest time (tied by one other and only bested by the race winner that day) of any NC female high school runner, EVER.  Taking 18 seconds off the Wendy's winning time for a staggering 17:15, 8th place finish and trip to the national XC championships this month in San Diego.

Michael finished his high school XC career with a 19th place (16:19) in the senior men's race. Courtney finished 82nd (22:40) in the senior women's race.  In the junior men's race, Matthew was 59th (16:50 -PR, I think).  Grant was 61st (16:55 -PR?), River was 72nd (17:02 PR), and Michael was 225th (19:33) in the sophomore race; and Price was 92nd (18:13) in the freshmen race.

XC Awards Banquet

The Watauga High cafeteria was full for the season closing awards banquet, where seniors were honored for their participation and leadership.  Team MVP honors went to Kathleen and Michael.  Grade level awards were distributed to:  Kathleen and Michael (12th), Lauren and Matthew (11th), Finley and Grant (10th), and Mia and Josh (9th).  Varsity letter winners were recognized and several coaches' award winners (Courtney, John, River, Catie) were acknowledged.  Thanks to the coaches and athletes for a great season.  Some photos of the event here.
